BaZi (八字) means "eight characters". The year, month, day and hour of your birth are each written as a pair of characters, a Heavenly Stem above an Earthly Branch, which gives four pillars and eight characters in total. The stem sitting over your birth day is the Day Master, and it stands for you. The other seven characters describe the conditions you were born into, above all the season, and the elements that feed or drain you.
Feng shui (風水) applies the same element logic to space instead of time. It reads where a building sits, which direction its main door faces, where the kitchen and bedrooms fall, and how water leaves the site. The rules behind the tools on this site come from classical manuals: 《陽宅十書》 for dwellings, 《協紀辨方書》 for date selection, and the 子平 method for reading a chart.
Free calculations first. The BaZi calculator takes a birth date and returns the four pillars, the Day Master, the balance of the five elements and the Ten Gods at each position. The compatibility calculator takes two birth dates and returns a match score together with the signals that produced it. Neither asks for an account, and neither is a trial of something better hidden behind it.
Written readings second. The paid tiers turn the same calculation into an analysis you can act on: which element your work belongs in, how income tends to arrive, what your chart says about the partner you attract, and which years are worth planning around. Everything is delivered as a written report by email, in English.
Questions last. If a line in your report is unclear, reply to the delivery email and we answer it. The calculators are rule-based engines rather than a black box, and every tool page states which texts and which rules it applies.
Reports are written by Wenshu Lin and the Daoist Arts research desk. We work from classical texts and cite them. Where the tradition carries competing readings, we set out both instead of picking the tidier one. We do not claim teaching lineages we cannot document, and we do not publish client stories we cannot verify.
The free tools exist for the same reason. A calculator that shows its reasoning can be checked against the texts, and a service that can be checked is worth more than one that asks to be trusted.
The questions that bring people here are practical. Choosing between two job offers when both look reasonable. Deciding whether to move this year or next. Picking a date for a wedding or an opening. Naming a child. Understanding why a relationship follows the same argument every few months. The tradition answers these as tendencies and timing rather than as fixed outcomes, and the readings are written that way.
